Dr. Lloyd Weber was a pioneering poultry veterinarian who founded one of Ontario’s first private poultry practices in 1970. He dedicated over 50 years to advancing poultry health, production, and education, and was recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to the poultry industry and research.
Lloyd was a passionate mentor to students, veterinarians, and producers, inspiring many to enter poultry medicine. He promoted critical thinking, ethics, and evidence-based practice, always eager to share his expertise and learn from others.
He valued lifelong learning and collaboration with peers locally and worldwide. Lloyd believed in balancing professional excellence with family and community life and was known for his kindness, humor, and humility.
This $2000.00 travel grant honors his legacy by supporting students who share his passion for poultry veterinary medicine and his commitment to excellence in field research, mentorship, and service to the poultry industry.
Students registered in the DVM program who will be participating in travel related to poultry production medicine, such as externships that include a poultry component, Phase 4 poultry rotations, summer research projects with a poultry focus, poultry conference participation or other learning opportunities relevant to poultry medicine are eligible. Selection will be based on the most significant demonstration that the travel opportunity will support the students’ learning objectives and contribute to their understanding of poultry production medicine. Preference will be given to students entering or registered in VETM*4710 Food Animal Stream or VETM*4660 Rural Community Practice Stream.
The grant is offered once annually. Apply during winter call for applications at OVC Dean's office. Submit a one-page letter listing your learning objectives for your chosen travel-related opportunity, explaining how it will contribute to your understanding of poultry production medicine.
The OVC award committee will make the selection. The selected student will be encouraged to present a case or highlight from their experience at a future OAPV meeting.
Investing in the next generation of poultry veterinarians strengthens the entire sector, and your contribution can make that possible. By adding to the seed funding provided by OAPV, companies and individuals help ensure that this student travel grant grows into a sustainable, long‑term opportunity. Each donation, large or small, directly supports students’ ability to attend conferences, build networks, and gain the experience our industry needs to thrive. Together, we can turn this grant into a lasting legacy of learning, connection, and sector-wide advancement.
